Clea Friend

Musician, Teacher, Aid Worker

"Clea has been a pioneer of a new kind of musical life, where she combines performing as a professional cellist as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician with work in communities in the UK and around the world. Her work embraces community development, trauma-informed art, creativity, education, therapy and rehabilitation.

Clea's work is an important part of a relocation of the arts in our society, where art is becoming increasingly prosocial, and gaining a new sense of value through what it can achieve rather than how much it is admired."

Emeritus Professor Nigel Osborne, MBE

Community Musician

Discovering the power that music has to improve quality of life - physically, emotionally and mentally - gives purpose to Clea's life as a musician.

This work, that she feels privileged to do, informs her music-making and influences every aspect of her life.
